The Widyatama University men’s team emerged as champions of the 2010 LA Lights Campus League basketball tournament. In the final match, Widyatama defeated UNJ in a game that went into overtime and ended 82-67. Surliyadin from Widyatama University was named the best player in the men’s group for his significant contribution to the team, scoring 29 points and eight rebounds.
The exciting and tense match took place in the men’s final, when Widyatama, which had been behind since the first quarter, was able to equalize the score and force overtime. Martha Rizky’s quick penetration two seconds before the end of normal time, ending with a smooth two-point shot into the opponent’s net, brought Widyatama to a 64-64 tie. After successfully balancing the score, the motivation of the Widyatama players increased in overtime, and they immediately surged ahead 70-64 through Surliyadin’s actions. UNJ’s efforts to catch up were always unsuccessful due to poor shooting accuracy and they were only able to add three points. On the other hand, Widyatama continued to add points through Firdaus Iqbal’s free throws. This forward player scored a total of 10 points, with eight of them coming from free throws during overtime.
“This victory is the result of the hard work of all the players. They never gave up, even though they were constantly trailing once they managed to equalize the score, the children’s motivation increased,” said Yoshua Rudolf, coach of the Widyatama University men’s team, after the match.
