History of Widyatama

Our History

Widyatama University was established on August 2, 2001 as a merger of the Bandung College of Economics (STIEB), the Bandung Language College (STIBB), the Bandung Widyatama College of Technology (STTW), the College of Visual Communication Design (STDKV). The combined efforts are intended to produce graduates who are truly competitive. The next step taken by Widyatama University is a serious and consistent effort to create an education service system with ISO-9001: 2000 standards.

The beginning

Widyatama University (UTama) began with the establishment of the Bandung Accounting Institute (IAB) in March 1973 which fostered the Accounting study program (Strata 1). The establishment of this college was initiated by Prof.Dr. Koesbandijah Abdul Kadir, Ak., a practitioner as well as an educator whose entire life has been devoted to education. In 1976, the Foundation as the organizer opened a Business Management study program (Strata 1) under the name Bandung Institute of Management (IMB).

Merger

Eventually the two Institutes merged to become the Bandung College of Accounting and Company Management (STAMPB), which later – September 3, 1979 changed to the Bandung College of Economics (STIEB). STIEB’s progress which is recognized by the wider community has encouraged the Foundation to develop several other higher schools, namely: Bandung Widyatama College of Technology (STTW, 1995); Bandung Language College (STIBB, 1996); College of Visual Communication Design (STDKV, 1999); then the Widyatama Master of Management Program (MM-Widyatama, 2000), as well as the Professional Accounting Education Program (PPA-Widyatama, 2004).
