After a close contest, the Widyatama University men’s basketball team finally became champions in the 2010 LA Lights Campus League regional finals at the C-tra Arena Sports Hall in Bandung on Saturday (10/30) night. In the final match, Widyatama defeated their opponents, the ITB men’s basketball team, with a score of 58-51.
Meanwhile, in the women’s category, the women’s basketball team from the Indonesia University of Education (UPI) won the championship after defeating their opponents, the women’s basketball team from Padjadjaran University, with a score of 64-52. The women’s final between UPI and Unpad was also intense and tight. Both teams displayed an offensive style of play. From the end of the second quarter, the points race was very tight. However, the UPI team, led by Rizkia Marisya, took the lead in the second quarter with a score of 33-26. Finally, in the final seconds, Rizkia Marisya and her friends ended the resistance of the Unpad team led by Fauzi Noviana, with a decisive final score of 64-52. For this success, the UPI women’s team won a prize of Rp 4 million. Meanwhile, Unpad had to settle for a prize of Rp 2 million.
In the men’s final between Widyatama and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), the match was extremely intense. The points were fiercely contested. In the second quarter, ITB led Widyatama University with a score of 31-23. However, Widyatama turned the tables, taking the lead in the final seconds with a score of 58-51. For this achievement, the Widyatama men’s team won Rp 6 million in prize money, while ITB won Rp 3 million. The success of the Widyatama men’s team and the UPI women’s team made them champions of the event, while also sending them to represent the city of Bandung in the grand final of the 2010 LA Lights Campus League, which will take place at the DEL Arena Surabaya, an international-standard sports hall. The 2010 LA Lights Campus League was very well organized and spectacular. The finalists were welcomed onto the court with fireworks, and the players emerged one by one from a star-shaped tunnel decorated with attractive lighting and bursts of fire. The atmosphere became even more lively when the band Rocket Rockers entertained the audience with their hit songs.
