A total of Rp. 20 million, along with usable secondhand clothing, food, beverages, and medicines, was successfully collected during the Widyatama Cares and Shares event, which has been running for the past two weeks. The funds and items collected came from the entire academic community of Widyatama University, including students, lecturers, and employees, and were donated through the Pikiran Rakyat Bandung daily newspaper to be distributed to fellow Indonesians affected by natural disasters in Merapi, Wasior, and Mentawai.
The donations were handed over by the Rector of Widyatama University, Dr. Mame S utoko, accompanied by a team from the Widyatama University Student Government, to the Managing Director of Pikiran Rakyat, H. Januar P Ruswita, on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at the Pikiran Rakyat Bandung Office. According to the Rector of Widyatama University, the fundraising and collection of goods for this assistance are a form of solidarity with our fellow citizens who are currently suffering. Students, lecturers, and staff of Widyatama have been actively raising humanitarian funds and setting up a collection center for goods, which has been ongoing for two weeks.
