The existence of Widyatama University (UTama) has been ingrained over time, one of which is its accounting study program, which has the best reputation in Bandung and even in Indonesia. Support from various parties in preserving this long-established and recognized study program is inseparable from the many educational events or performances organized by the Student Senate (SeMa). These events include seminars, competitions in various fields, or simply gatherings to conduct benchmarking with other university SeMa organizations.
The commitment to the institution is always demonstrated by the success of every work program carried out by SeMa during each term of office. The same was true for the Widyatama Accounting Competition ’13. Like dejavu, this event, which was held from the 12th to the 17th, was a great success.
There was something different about this year’s WAC compared to previous years. Sonny Maydana, the chief executive, believes that the series of events he conceived provided a new experience for the committee, competition participants, and all those involved in the success of WAC’13.
This inter-campus accounting competition was attended by 29 teams from 17 universities throughout Indonesia. “This is a record high from previous years, with 29 participants. This is due to the maturation of the concept from previous years’ WAC,” said Zidnie, one of the LO division committee members. Parahyangan Catholic University won 1st and 2nd place in the competition, which was held in several sessions, followed by Widya Mandala University in 3rd place.
What was different about this year’s WAC was that they included a music event in the seminar and competition. WAC’13, which was held in the UTama auditorium, was divided into three segments. Music (economic day), seminars, and accounting competitions were the main events. Panorama Band, Juicy Luicy, and the famous Indonesian band Mocca were invited to perform. The first night was lively, with the presence of these bands marking the beginning of WAC’13’s success.
Widyatama Accounting Competition “Prove Yourself, Achieve The Glory” had the theme of war in achieving glory. Starting from the concept of the event itself, which is an accounting competition, the theme of war was raised as a forum for participants to seek glory, hence the slogan Prove Yourself, Achieve The Glory! Wrapped in the theme of a festival in this year’s new series of events, namely Economic Days, it aims to provide a forum for students and the general public to appreciate the arts and entrepreneurship with the concept of a bazaar and music festival.
And the national seminar with the theme Find your Passion in the World of Accounting, invited Evi S Hayati, S.E (Owner of Wondrouss Bag), Drs. Ahmadi Hadibroto., Ak., MSc., CPA., CA (Chair of the Indonesian Institute of Accountants), and Drs. Helmy Yahya, MBA. The speakers motivated students not to be “stuck” in one field alone in order to face global challenges. “We are fortunate as accounting students because we are always needed in various fields, but we should not be satisfied with accounting alone. We can blend our entrepreneurial skills and entertainment skills, which can be explored and combined with our basic knowledge,” added Helmi Yahya enthusiastically when asked to give a testimony about the theme of this event. It is a source of pride for the speakers that many students today do not know the direction of their studies and are not in line with their own passions. Therefore, from now on, nurture your talents, and create your passion, to achieve glory.
