Cikurubuk Village, located in Buahdua District, offers beautiful views of Mount Tampomas to the northwest. The majority of the population is involved in agriculture, while a small number are active in transportation, trade, construction, and services.
With a focus on sustainable development, or what is known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations, the Organic Rice Management and Development program in Cikurubuk Village, Sumedang Regency, aims to improve the welfare of farmers through the production of organic rice that is competitive in the global market.
Through effective and e
fficient management, it is hoped that farmers can produce high-quality organic rice and various processed products that are in demand in local, regional, and global markets. The entire production process is expected to be certified organic to meet international standards.
Widyatama University, in implementing the Tri Darma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education), refers to the UN SDGs by adopting the seventeen SDG goals as themes for Education and Teaching, Research, and Community Service. This also includes the implementation of government programs such as accelerating the reduction of stunting, extreme poverty, the development of Vocational Education and Training, and the One Village One Product (OVOP) program in the Management and Development of Organic Rice in Cikurubuk Village, Sumedang Regency.

The kick-off event for the management and development of organic rice production that is competitive in the global market was held at the Cikurubuk Village Hall on Wednesday (03/20/2024) and was attended by the Rector of Widyatama University, Prof. Dr. H. Dadang Suganda, M.Hum, and the Vice Rector for Tri Dharma and Student Affairs, Dr. R. Wedi Rurmawan Kusumah, S.E., M.Si., Ak., C.A., as well as structural officials from the university, academics, and the Widyatama Foundation.
Also present were the heads of the Sumedang Regency Government Agencies, including Dr. Asep Dadang Darmawan, S.Pd., M.Pd.; Head of Cooperation for Sumedang Regency; Head of the Food Crops Division of the West Java Province Food Crops and Horticulture Agency, Yanti Hidyatun Zakiah, S.Hut., M.Si., and a representative from the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Dr. Maman Wijaya.
Also in attendance were Dr. Hj. Atalia Praratya, S.IP., M.IKom., representing Widyatama lecturers and also serving as Chair of Jabar Bergerak; Buah Dua Subdistrict Head of Sumedang Regency, Herman Suwandi, S.Ip., M.Si., and; Cikurubuk Village Head, Muhamad Fandar Junawar. (DM/BJN).
