Reported by Belmawa. Myanmar Vice President U Myint Swe officially opened the biennial Southeast Asian student athletic event, the 19th ASEAN University Games (AUG). The opening ceremony was held at the Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex Indoor Stadium.
This student-level sporting event will feature 17 sports, with a total of 1,897 medals up for grabs, consisting of 587 gold, 587 silver, and 723 bronze medals. The event will consist of 201 competitions and will be attended by 2,078 athletes, coaches, and managers from ASEAN member countries.
The event will take place from December 10-19, 2018, in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. The Indonesian student athlete team, accompanied by the Director of Student Affairs, Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, Didin Wahidin, brought a group of 192 student athletes, coaches, and accompanying officials. Indonesia itself participated in 13 of the 17 sports competed in.

In his speech, Vice President U Myint Swe told all participants to always remember the purpose of the competition, which is to show the closeness and solidarity of member countries, especially the younger generation. Sports competitions also provide opportunities for athletes to showcase their talents in the field of sports in the ASEAN region and allow athletes to interact and exchange cultures with fellow ASEAN member countries.
The event was also attended by Myanmar ministers and officials, ambassadors and officials from participating countries. At the end of his speech, Vice President U Myint Swe thanked those present and officially opened the 19th ASEAN University Games 2018.
At the time of writing, Indonesian student athletes have won 44 gold medals, 39 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals.
One of the medals was contributed by Fauzi Ramadhan, a student from the Faculty of Business Management at Widyatama University, who is an Indonesian badminton athlete in the Men’s Singles category.
The Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs invites all Indonesian citizens to support the student athletes so they can achieve the best results and bring honor to the nation.
