Widyatama University is the only private university in Bandung that is deeply concerned about the environment.

Bandung (June 16, 2015), This year’s World Environment Day commemoration at the city level in Bandung was held at PT. Pindad (Persero). The event was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Bandung, Oded M Danial, accompanied by the Head of the Bandung City Environmental Management Agency (BPLH), Drs. H. Hikmat Ginanjar M.Si, Mrs. Atalya Praratya Kamil as the Head of the Bandung City Family Welfare Program (PKK), and the Director of PT. Pindad Persero. The event, which was spearheaded by the BPLH of Bandung City, also invited educational institutions, environmentalist communities, and the winners of each category nominated by the BPLH of Bandung City.

Widyatama University attended as an invited guest and was honored as the winner of the “Environmentally Conscious Institution in Bandung City” category. It is rare for an institution to be “aware” of the surrounding environment, especially regarding the improper use of natural resources that does not align with government procedures, leading to environmental damage and even natural disasters. In contrast, the Widyatama Foundation plays a role in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs that are always connected to the surrounding environment.

The Rector of Widyatama University, Dr. H. Islahuzzaman, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA., and the Dean of the Faculty of Visual Communication Design, Dr. Anne Nurfarina, S.Sn., M.Sn., where Widyatama University was named the only university that cares deeply about the environment. Anne believes that this appreciation must be maintained, because the function of institutions in terms of society must be useful to the surrounding community, especially in environmental protection. “The Cidurian river clean-up program is one of the instruments that supports environmental stability, especially around higher education institutions. The support of the surrounding community is a good synergy in protecting the surrounding environment,” added Anne at the event themed Dreams and Actions Together for Sustainable Life on Earth.

Widyatama University’s commitment to the environment has been realized through collaboration with the Bandung City Environmental Management Agency (BPLH). This is an effort to contribute to the alleviation of social problems, including: cleanliness issues in the general community, waste disposal issues, and air pollution, which is believed to be the main cause of mental disabilities in children. In a continuous manner and in collaboration between the academic community of UTama and BPLH, various programs have been implemented, including the River Cleanup Program, the Motor Vehicle Emission Testing Campaign Program, and the Rehabilitation Program for Areas Affected by Natural Disasters.
