A solemn atmosphere was evident at the ceremony commemorating Indonesia’s 66th Independence Day on Wednesday (17/8) at the Widyatama University Parade Ground. Acting as the ceremony leader, Widyatama University Rector Dr. Mame S. Sutoko, Ir., began the flag-raising at 8:00 a.m. In addition to employees and lecturers, new students from the 2011-2012 class also attended the flag ceremony. This year’s Independence Day commemoration ceremony coincided with the observance of Ramadan fasting, so the organizers had prepared health workers to be on standby in case any participants experienced health problems during the ceremony. The flag-raising ceremony was also attended by new students of Widyatama University for the 2011-2012 academic year.
In the speech delivered by the ceremony leader, independence has not yet been fully achieved. It is the duty of all of us, as part of the nation, to build the nation and state. This ranges from the smallest part, which is building ourselves as individuals, to the largest part, which is building togetherness for the advancement of the nation and state in various fields, he added. This is very necessary to build the character of a nation that grows in harmony with the ever-evolving times. It is not about being appreciated, but about mutual respect among fellow human beings, who are partners in development.***
