Bandung (May 21), Tech in Asia held a Tech in Asia Campus Visit at Widyatama University. The event was packaged as a mini conference and seminar, inviting UrbanIndo Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Petra Novandi Barus. UrbanIndo is an online classifieds website specializing in property in Indonesia. This site provides many ways for users to search for properties, ranging from searching for properties based on keywords, locations on a map, photo galleries, and based on the desired property agent.
During the discussion, Petra shared his story of how he founded UrbanIndo with dozens of students who were present that afternoon. Together with his two partners, Arip Tirta and Margareth Jonathan, this graduate of the Bandung Institute of Technology started UrbanIndo in December 2011. Currently, UrbanIndo has more than 40,000 agents, 2,000 companies, and 400,000 real estate listings spread across Indonesia.
In today’s modern era, the internet has become a basic human need. People’s lifestyles and daily activities have also become easier with technology. Not only that, the internet also helps people to communicate over long distances, which was previously difficult to do. Based on these conditions, Petra and his colleagues started their business based on internet communication technology.
Many questions were asked by seminar participants, ranging from starting a career to marketing on the internet (Digital Marketing Media). As a business player who has long been involved in the world of Online Media, Petra also shared some tips on building a digital market with the audience. These ranged from segmenting opinions from the right parties, never delaying the publicity of goods, to not regretting it when encountering “failure.”
With the shift in passion in business, especially in “timing” the launch of a new product, students from Widyatama University who are particularly focused on the world of online business found the seminar to be an inspiring reference and a mix sales strategy in their business processes.
