National Heroes’ Day
Atalia Ridwan Kamil was officially inaugurated as Chair of the West Java Regional Headquarters (Kwarda Jabar) along with the Kwarda Jabar management for the 2020-2025 term, including Djoko Roespinoedji, Chair of the Widyatama Foundation as Deputy Treasurer.
They were inaugurated by the Chair of the Regional Advisory Council (Mabida) at the Arcamanik Youth Center, Bandung City, to coincide with National Heroes’ Day on Tuesday (10/11/2020) afternoon.
According to Deni Nurdyana, Chair of the Inauguration Committee, Heroes’ Day was chosen as the date for the inauguration because the spirit embodied in this national holiday is in line with the spirit of scouting.
During the inauguration ceremony, two sessions were held consecutively.
The first session was the inauguration of the Mabida by the Chairman of the National Scout Movement Headquarters. Mabida consists of echelon II officials from the West Java Provincial Government, Forkopimda elements, and other institutions.
At the regional meeting in Bogor City on October 6-7, Atalia was elected as the new Kwarda Chair, replacing Dede Yusuf who had served two terms. Atalia is the 13th leader of Kwarda West Java and the first woman to become Kwarda Chair.
It should be noted that in 2017, West Java was recorded as the province with the largest number of scout members in Indonesia.
At that time, there were around 6.1 million scout members spread across 27 branch offices. Around 5.8 million members were school students, and 323 thousand were adults.
However, the current membership stands at 4.5 million people. Therefore, Atalia is determined to restore the scouting movement in West Java to its leading position in Indonesia. Its presence must be truly felt by the community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
There are six missions of Pramuka Jabar Juara Lahir Batin, which have been announced. First, to strengthen the spirit of scouting in character building, morals, and manners. Second, to inventory and optimize scouting assets. Third, to internalize the spirit of mutual love, guidance, and nurturing by prioritizing the interests of the organization over personal interests.
Fourth, to adapt the scouting movement to the current situation.
Fifth, to increase collaboration with academics, businesses, communities, government, and the media. Sixth, to play an active role in addressing national issues.
Meanwhile, regarding the Deputy Treasurer of Kwarda Jabar, Djoko Roespinoedji, he told majalahsora.com that he is obliged to contribute to the establishment of a Scout student activity unit (UKM) at Widyatama University.
In addition, Djoko, who is also the Treasurer of the West Java and Central Indonesian Private Higher Education Management Association (ABPTSI), will encourage other universities to establish Scout UKMs on their respective campuses in West Java.
“Alhamdulillah, I and other members have been appointed as administrators of Kwarda West Java for the 2020-2025 period. I was asked by West Java Scout leaders to assist Ms. Atalia Kamil, Chair of the West Java Scout Council, so that Scouts in higher education institutions can play an important role in society. God willing, this will be optimized,” said Djoko on Tuesday (11/11/2020) afternoon.
According to Djoko, the strategic role of Scouts on campus is in line with the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi, namely education and teaching, research, and community service.
After the establishment of many Scout student activity units on campuses, in the future, they must become agents of change for the community through their intellectual abilities because they have special characteristics that are different from other community or territorial Scouts.
According to Djoko, the role of campus Scouts focuses on being problem solvers for the community and agents of development.
“This mission is in line with the concept of tribina in Scouting education, namely self-development, which is to improve skills; unit development, which is to manage Scout unit cadres; and community development, which is to serve the community,” he concluded.
