Presenting Renowned Companies at Widyatama University’s Virtual Job Fair to Help Job Seekers During the Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic is still ongoing, with no end in sight. Many sectors have been affected, including layoffs by several companies due to continued losses.

However, optimism remains high in helping to overcome these various problems, as demonstrated by the Widyatama University (UTama) Career Center by holding a virtual job fair, “Career Day UTama Virtual Expo 2021”. The event is open to the public and will be held for two days, from July 6-7, 2021.

Yelli Eka Sumadhinata, S.E., M.M., Head of the UTama Career Center (Career Center Universitas Widyatama), explained that around 25 companies participated in the event and provided hundreds of job vacancies for various positions.

“Two companies withdrew because they are currently working from home. Overall, there are 70 job vacancies. Each vacancy is for 1 to 10 new employees,” said Yelli, at the UTama Multipurpose Building, Jalan Cikutra No. 204-A, Bandung, Tuesday (6/7/2021) afternoon.

To participate in the virtual job fair, job applicants must prepare their curriculum vitae (CV) in PDF format, then register via the link: https://bit.ly/CareerDay2021UTAMA. After that, access the page http://careerday2021.www.widyatama.ac.id/ and log in using their email address.

“Praise God, enthusiasm is quite high. Those seeking employment are not only graduates from Widyatama University, but also from other campuses. Job seekers simply register from home via the link we have shared. They only need to save (upload) their CV once. Then, the uploaded CV can be applied to several companies they are interested in,” said Yelli.

Yelli also explained about the virtual display, where visitors or applicants feel as if they are attending a live job fair.

She also revealed that the UTama Career Center activities could run smoothly thanks to the support of the Widyatama Foundation and the Widyatama University Rectorate.

“Even during the pandemic, we continue to pursue our vision and mission of helping UTama graduates prepare themselves to enter the workforce and find job opportunities. In addition, we aim to help graduates of Widyatama University and other universities prepare themselves to enter the workforce. This includes inspiring students to optimize their potential in their respective fields in order to face competition in today’s free market era and beyond through web seminars,” said Yelli.

The webinar itself featured four topics and speakers, namely, Keys to Success in Developing Your Career (from Wardah Cosmetics), Tips for Passing Interviews (Indonesia Cendikia), Professional Grooming (PT. Tips for Success in Psychometric Tests and Interviews

The “Career Day UTama Virtual Expo 2021” webinar also featured speakers who are experts in their fields, providing encouragement and insight into the world of work for job seekers. Among other things, they shared tips for success in applying for jobs.

Siti Sarah, M.Psi, a psychologist from Indonesia Cendikia, who was the speaker at the webinar on the first day, Tuesday (7/6/2021), gave a presentation on “Tips for Success in Psychological Tests and Interviews.”

According to her, psychological testing is a series of specially designed psychological tests that serve as a standard for objectively measuring a person’s psychological traits. These tests enable recruiters to understand a candidate’s behavior patterns, especially from a psychological perspective.

Therefore, in order for job applicants to succeed in psychological tests, Siti said, they must seek information about the ins and outs of psychological tests, practice psychological test questions, take psychological tests honestly and wholeheartedly, and prepare themselves mentally and physically.

Meanwhile, interviews, said Siti, are formal activities aimed at gathering information to evaluate the qualifications of a candidate for a particular position. They are conducted face-to-face in a question-and-answer format to obtain the necessary information.

Therefore, according to Siti, the important things to do during an interview (online/Zoom) are that job applicants must master the devices that will be used, ensure they have sufficient internet quota, ensure they have the correct interview account, send a message that they are ready for the interview, wear appropriate clothing and makeup, use the right virtual background, and remember and mention the interviewer’s name.
