Several national and West Java newspapers have reported on the possibility that several private universities (PTS) in West Java may not be able to continue their educational programs due to a shortage of students. Only 68 PTS still have students, and 20 of them have more than 500 students, while the rest have fewer than 500 students. This was conveyed by Dr. Zulganef, Drs., M.M., accompanied by Iwa Garniwa, S.E., M.Si. during the dissemination of the research results of “Positioning Study of Higher Education Institutions in the Perception of Prospective Students in West Java” on Friday (8/5) in the seminar room on the 6th floor of the Graha Widyatama Building. The research, which was funded by a Fundamental Research Grant from the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education, aimed to map the perceptions of prospective students towards several private and public universities in West Java. From the results of the study, several conclusions were presented, including 7 important things that must be considered as the basis for managing the higher education market in West Java, namely, the campus environment, reputation, teaching staff, student activities, supporting facilities, dormitories, and other campus facilities. Zulganef added that prospective students in West Java strongly refer to primordial values, in this case religious values, when considering continuing their studies in higher education specifically PTS.
