The open doctoral promotion examination was led by the chair of the session, Dr. C. Budi Santoso, M. Bus., and the promoter team consisting of Dr. T. Hani Handoko, M.B.A, co-promoters Dr. Amin Wibowo, M.B.A., and Dr. Ely Susanto, M.B.A, as well as the examination team consisting of Dr. Sari Sitalaksmi, M.Mgt., Nurul Indarti, Sivilokonom, Cand, Merc., Ph.D., and Dr. Reni Rosari. M.B.A. The dissertation written by Neuneung Ratna Hayati was titled “The Influence of Cognitive Diversity in Goal Interdependence and Its Implications for Group Creativity: Testing the Transactive Memory System” and was declared to have passed with honors.
The dissertation aimed to examine the positive influence of cognitive diversity in perception among group members on the group’s Transactive Memory System (TMS), examine the moderating influence of goal interdependence orientation within the group on the positive influence of cognitive diversity on the group’s TMS, and examine the positive influence of the group’s TMS on group creativity. The unit of analysis in this study was at the group level, with 92 work groups from various organizations in Indonesia participating in the study. Overall, the results of the data analysis showed that the three hypotheses proposed were not in line with the predictions made based on the literature review. However, this study provides an interesting insight that the relationship between TMS and its antecedents and consequences is not simply a positive linear relationship. Neuneung Ratna Hayati said that the emergence of disagreements or communication problems and the influence of specific group contexts (group type, group tasks) indicate why cognitive diversity actually has a negative effect on SMT. The existence of group faultlines has the potential to respond to these negative effects.
