Prof. Dadang Suganda, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at Widyatama University (UTama), opened the Multimedia Curriculum Workshop. Held online on Thursday (March 18, 2021), this was one of the concrete steps towards the implementation of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM).
According to him, the essence of MBKM includes reform and regulation in the system, breakthroughs in education today, and changes in the future.
“For example, the model of cooperation between campuses and the business and industrial world (DUDI) must be structured in the form of a curriculum. This is a model of partnership with appropriate guidelines and guidance according to needs,” said Prof. Dadang, at the UTama Campus, Jalan Cikutra No. 204-A, Bandung City, Thursday (18/3/2021).
He further explained that practitioners or professionals need to be present on campus. The aim is to provide students with comprehensive information about the ins and outs of DUDI. This is in order to create superior human resources (HR) who can respond to global needs.
Meanwhile, Banung Grahita, an academic from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FRSD) at ITB, said that attention to graduate profiles in line with real needs, with the current discipline of multimedia, will be very broad and intersect with other disciplines.
Therefore, according to him, the model of interdisciplinary transformation between scientific fields will be more open, in order to improve competence in the field of multimedia.
Meanwhile, Rudi Farid, Head of the Graphic Design (D4) Study Program, has a different view. Rudi said that it is important to maintain the aspects of communication and information meaning as the narrative content of communication problem solving.
He added that the demand for expertise in the field of multimedia also needs to improve the ability to operate several devices.
Therefore, each graduate tends to specialize in a particular field or have a comprehensive skill set.
It should be noted that the advancement of information technology and media has transformed the way users view things. For example, the shift from flat screens to 360-degree screens in virtual reality. This will determine how creativity works in media applications.
In addition, the implementation of the DUDI-related curriculum needs to realize each task based on real projects in accordance with case studies in the field. This will enable adaptation to rapid changes and improve soft skills or social skills, communication, social intelligence, and others, as characteristics of competent individuals.
This activity is also planned to be continued in the next work program, conducting group discussions with other parties.
Apart from the three speakers above, there were also other speakers, such as Gaga Nugraha, a practitioner in the field of animation, advertising, and film, Wahyu Tamly, and Asep Deni Iskandar, Head of the Multimedia Study Program.
