Bandung (June 25), Widyatama Foundation, Abditriyasa Foundation, and the Islamic Student Association (KAMI) of Widyatama University held the 3rd Qur’an Light Week. This is the third time Widyatama Foundation has held Qur’an Light Week (PCQ), which is always held during the month of Ramadan. Reflecting on last year’s success, this year’s PCQ was held for four days from July 25 to July 28, 2015. The event featured a variety of activities, starting with religious lectures, sermons, Qur’an recitations, free medical treatment, and the distribution of basic food supplies to local residents.
The event, which began at 9:00 a.m., was opened with a speech by the Chairman of the Widyatama Foundation Management Board, T. Ontowirryo A, S.E., MBA. The second speech was delivered by the guest of honor, Drs. Deni S (Head of the Cibeunying Kidul Subdistrict), who was accompanied by the Head of the Sukapada Village Administration. In his speech, Deni expressed his gratitude to the Widyatama Foundation and University for their continued concern and for always providing social assistance to the residents of Cibeunying, especially those in Sukapada Village. Deni symbolically opened the event by striking a gong.
This PCQ event featured many speakers who are experts in their fields. Based on the Qur’an, the speakers gave many presentations that motivated us to live better lives. The speakers were Abu Marlo, Jack Spancer, Dr. Moch. Rizkar Arev, Sp.OG (K). Guest speakers at this PCQ were Ir. Muhammad Nurhadi (Cak Nur), Dr. dr. Tauhid Nur Azhar, Msi.Med, and soap opera actor Adipura.
Implementing the Qur’an in daily life
With the theme “The Rise of the Noble Nation’s Next Generation for Indonesia,” Abu Marlo combined science and the principles of the Qur’an, which we usually overlook in our daily activities, with many phenomena already embedded in the Qur’an. Abu Marlo, a graduate of The Master Season One, delivered his message through the Quran Light Week event held at the Multi-Purpose Building of Widyatama University, urging Muslims to understand the meaning of the Quran as a guide for life.
“When asked what their guide to life is, many people answer the Qur’an, but when asked again, almost 90 percent of them do not understand the meaning contained in the Qur’an,” said Abu Marlo in his presentation. The magician, who was also one of the speakers at the event, admitted that he was moved to invite people who have not fully understood the meaning contained in the Quran.
The other speakers explained the guidelines and meaning of the Qur’an in ourselves and our lives, discussing the Ten Commandments or 10 guidelines in life that we must not violate, from not taking the name of Allah in vain to always upholding Qona’ah within ourselves. “Life in the view of Islam is meaningful in terms of the quality of life from this world to the hereafter, a life that is full of meaning and benefits for the environment. A person’s life in Islam is measured by how well they carry out their obligations as a human being as prescribed by Dienull Islam. A person’s existence or absence in Islam is measured by how much benefit the community feels from their presence,” said Ustad Kondang, who is often called Cak Nur.
In addition to the sermon and the lively clothing bazaar that enlivened the event, it was followed by the distribution of basic food supplies to residents around the Sukapada sub-district. Starting with the Sukapada sub-district head symbolically distributing the basic food supplies, followed by several Widyatama University staff, the event ran in an orderly and organized manner. Additionally, on the fourth day, PCQ once again provided free medical treatment served by 10 doctors ready to address residents’ medical concerns. The treatment, which began at 12:30 PM, concluded at 3:00 PM, marking the end of this year’s PCQ event.
