In an effort to improve instructional and professional skills, the Rectorate, through the Human Resources Bureau, has organized a one-week training program (October 31 to November 5) divided into two batches, held at Building B of Widyatama University, Bandung. The training was led by Prof. Dr. Davidescu Cristiana, Vice Rector for Operations, and Prof. Dr. Jozua Subandar, M.A., Vice Rector for Teaching and Learning, in an effort to share insights and knowledge in order to address the new paradigm shift from Teaching Center Learning to Student Center Learning Based on Soft Skills.
Producing high-quality graduates is the goal of every university, including Widyatama University. Therefore, in order to maintain, preserve, and improve the existing high-quality graduates, a series of activities and programs are carried out by the Rectorate through the Human Resources Bureau, one of which is by providing training for lecturers as the spearhead and closest line/direct contact with stakeholders, in this case Widyatama University students. In her presentation, the Vice Rector for Operations said that lecturers should provide quality services that meet or even exceed the needs and expectations of stakeholders. Lecturers, as individuals who plan, implement, and assess the success of student learning, are required to help students acquire knowledge and expertise/skills in accordance with the values that apply in society. Professional quality is demonstrated by five (5) performance indicators, namely the desire to exhibit behavior that approaches ideal standards, enhancing the image of the profession, professional development, quality and ideals in the profession, and pride in the profession (lecturer).
In the next session, Prof. Dr. Jozua Subandar, M.A. explained in more detail about the technical implementation of teaching and learning. Consistency and persistence are required in pursuing a career as a lecturer. The task of a lecturer begins with developing themselves first so that they can convey knowledge to their students without neglecting the role of the media used. Additionally, soft skills such as social abilities, the ability to share ideas, and confidence are absolutely necessary, explained Prof. Jozua. (red)
