Head of West Java Provincial Manpower Office Opens UTama Career Day 2017

Career Day UTama 2017 is a routine activity of the UTama Career Center Unit, but the difference between this Career Day and the previous ones is that this activity is integrated with other career development programs, as well as programs that can develop the abilities/soft skills of job seekers, thereby adding value to job seekers.

Career Day UTama 2017 was held over two days, starting on March 22 & 23, 2017, at the Auditorium Building (GSG) Widyatama. The event opened with a performance by the Bandung Santo Club (BSTC) Widyatama, followed by a report from Mr. Pipin Sukandi, S.E., M.M., as the Chief Executive, and a speech from the Vice Rector of Widyatama University for Development Planning and Cooperation, Mrs. Sri Astuti Pratminingsih, S.E., M.S., Ph.D. The event was officially opened by the Head of the West Java Provincial Manpower & Transmigration Office, Dr. Ir. Ferry Sofwan Arif. M.Si, marked by the striking of a gong.

Ferry said that activities such as this should be supported and appreciated by the government, in this case DISNAKERTRAS, as an effort to reduce unemployment. “The unemployment rate in West Java as of August 2016 reached 1.9 million people, which is quite alarming and should be a concern for all of us,” said Ferry.

At least 40 national and international companies from various fields participated in this event, including banking, retail, manufacturing, textiles, insurance, property, and others. Career Day was also enlivened by institutions from Japan that held training sessions for studying and working in Japan. During his visit to the stands of companies participating in Career Day, Ferry revealed that the demand for workers in Japan continues to increase every year, with at least 1,000 workers needed in Japan. Not only were there recruitment activities, but Career Day visitors could also attend seminars on job hunting techniques and take TOEFL and IELTS tests for free.

Meanwhile, a Bazaar and Food Truck event was held in the parking lot of the Widyatama Auditorium (GSG) Widyatama to support students and alumni who also have a strong entrepreneurial spirit. It is hoped that each event that has been prepared will broaden the insight and knowledge of Widyatama University alumni and students Widyatama or job seekers in general.
