Universitas Widyatama Language Faculty Holds Dialogue Forum with High School/Vocational School Subject Teachers’ Council

On Saturday (February 3rd), the Faculty of Languages, in collaboration with the English and Japanese Language Teacher Working Group (MGMP), held an event in the Seminar Room on the 4th floor of Building A at Widyatama University. The event was attended by more than 100 teachers from various cities, including Bandung City and Regency, Sumedang, Cirebon, Garut, Ciamis, and Bangka Regency.

The event opened with a speech from the Dean of the Faculty of Languages at Universitas Widyatama, Dr. Hero Gunawan, M.Pd, followed by a presentation from the Head of the Marketing Bureau at Widyatama University, Devy Mawarnie Puspitasari, S.E., M.M. On this occasion, the Faculty of Languages introduced the Bachelor of English and Diploma in Japanese programs, which both achieved A accreditation in late 2017.

With the theme “Classroom Action Research,” the forum was attended by the Dean and the Heads of Study Programs at the Faculty of Languages Universitas Widyatama. Presentations on the uniqueness of each program were delivered by the Heads of Study Programs. The uniqueness of the English Language Study Program is that it offers major and minor concentrations that can be taken by Widyatama students. The major concentrations include English for Classroom Instruction and Translation, while the Minor concentrations are in collaboration with several Study Programs at Widyatama University, including Broadcasting (in collaboration with the Faculty of Visual Communication Design at Widyatama), Business (in collaboration with the Faculty of Business Management at Widyatama), Taxation (in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics at Widyatama), and Japanese (in collaboration with the Japanese Study Program at Widyatama).

The uniqueness of the Japanese Language Diploma Program is that it always brings in Benkyoukai (Native Speakers) from Japan, while the Japanese Bachelor’s Degree Program has a unique 3 plus one program, which is an optional program where students can attend classes for 3 years and then take a 1-year elective program, which includes studying in Japan, conducting research, or starting a business.

The forum continued with a dialogue from guest speaker Professor Bachrudin Musthafa, M.A., Ph.D., who is also a professor of literary literacy and former dean of the Faculty of Languages at Universitas Widyatama.
