The Life Philosophy of “Prof. Dr. Engkus Kuswarno, M.S.” Inspires Widyatama Students

Friday (August 31), Prof. Dr. H. Engkus Kuswarno, MS., shared his experiences in conducting lectures at the University Introduction Program (PPU) at the Widyatama Auditorium (GSG) Building. Prof. Engkus was accompanied by the Vice Rector for Operations, Human Resources, and Finance, Djoko S. Roespinoedji, S.E., PG. DIP.

For Prof. Engkus, life flows like water. Even though the path and places he visits are winding, he will continue to follow it until it takes him to his desired destination. With this philosophy of life, Prof. Engkus tries to live sincerely with what is in front of him, enjoying it, and most importantly, being grateful for it.

If any of you feel that you have chosen the wrong major, do not be discouraged, because Allah has shown you the best path for all of you, said Prof. Engkus.

Initially, when he graduated from high school in 1982, he wanted to study at ITB or IPB. However, God had other plans. He was accepted at the Faculty of Communication Sciences at Padjadjaran University, which at that time was still called the Faculty of Journalism. Although it was not his first choice, in line with his philosophy of life, he tried to live it to the fullest.

Unexpectedly, a few years later, he received a scholarship from the government to continue his master’s degree in Agricultural and Rural Development Communication Sciences at IPB. He even became a lecturer at ITB’s postgraduate program and various other universities. “My other friends who were not accepted at ITB took the exam again the following year. But I didn’t. I decided to stay here.

At first, I didn’t know much about journalism; I only knew it was related to journalism, but I was sure there were other things beyond that, such as public relations. The longer I studied there, the more I liked it,” said the man who was born in Garut City.

The philosophy he always applies in everything is “Study, worship, improve yourself, and rest (titirah), and never forget to be grateful for what Allah has given us.” This philosophy is what brought him success, from initially choosing the wrong major at Unpad to now becoming a Professor at FIKOM Unpad.
