18 student representatives from 18 study programs at Widyatama University (UTama) participated in the Students’ Outbound Mobility Program at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Perak, Malaysia on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. During the event, students not only got to know each other and expanded their networks, but also had the opportunity to engage in discussions with the Student Executive Board of UiTM.
In the lively discussion, the students shared information and experiences related to academic and non-academic life on their respective campuses. This certainly became a source of knowledge for students from two different countries.
The discussion resulted in an agreement to form a global community that not only involves UTama students from Indonesia and UiTM students from Malaysia, but also students from the UK. Through this, it is hoped that students will have the opportunity to expand their networks to exchange information, knowledge, experiences, and cultures on a broader scale.
In addition to the discussion, UTama students also took advantage of this event to introduce and promote Indonesian culture, especially the culture of West Java, where Widyatama University is located. The eighteen students introduced a traditional West Javanese musical instrument, the angklung, complete with its history, materials, and the notes it can play. They also distributed thousand-rupiah coins with an angklung image on one side.
After the presentation by Andra, a student of the Japanese Language and Uloh Study Program, and students of the English Language Study Program, all students from various study programs at UTama performed two songs in front of the leaders, lecturers, and students of UiTM and UTama. The two songs were a regional song titled Manuk Dadali and an international song titled Viva la Vida.
The angklung performance led by Andra (a student of the Japanese Language Study Program) was enthusiastically welcomed by the audience, who waved their hands to the rhythm and sang along. At the end of the performance, Widyatama University presented the angklung to Universiti Teknologi Mara as a symbol of friendship between the two universities from two countries. The handover was symbolically conducted by the Rector of Widyatama University, Prof. Dr. Dadang Suganda, M.Hum., and received by the Rector of Universiti Teknologi Mara Perak, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur Hisham Ibrahim.
