Widyatama Wins West Java Governor’s Cup at Widetion 2

The Widyama University (UTama) 3 team won first place and was awarded the West Java Governor’s rotating trophy at the 2009 Widyatama Debate Competition (Widetion) on Wednesday (15/4) after facing stiff competition from the London School Jakarta team in the final round. With confidence, the UTama team successfully convinced the judges to give them high scores with their counterarguments. With only a narrow difference of 5 points, London School Jakarta had to acknowledge the superiority of the Widyatama team with a final score of 707 and 712.

A total of nine universities in Bandung, Jakarta, and Lampung participated in the National Student Debate Competition, which was held for the second time and took place from April 13 to 15, 2009, in the Seminar Room on the 4th floor of the Widyatama Rectorate Building, Jalan Cikutra, Bandung. Meanwhile, in the battle for third place, the skill of the Telkom Management Institute (IM) Bandung team succeeded in breaking the fighting spirit of the Utama 1 team in presenting their arguments.

The judges, consisting of lecturers and management and business practitioners, were impressed by the rebuttals and arguments presented by the participants. The victory of the host team, Utama 3, was marked by the presentation of the West Java Governor’s rotating trophy by the Secretary of the Foundation’s Management Board, H. Marcus Kasirin, S.E., M.M., and a trophy and cash prize of 5 million rupiah to the winners. The National Debate Competition among students, which covered various topics related to management and business, particularly strategic management, was part of a series of activities organized by the Widyatama Management Event (WME) held by the Student Senate of the Faculty of Business & Management, Widyatama University. This activity was intended to broaden students’ horizons and hone their verbal communication skills as capital for their future entry into society.

The debate competition was participated in by nine universities, including Pasundan University Bandung, Bandung Polytechnic, Lancang Kuning University Pekanbaru, Telkom Management Institute Bandung, London School Jakarta, and IBI Lampung. In addition, this week-long event will feature various activities, including a national intercollegiate debate competition, talkshows, a management expo, seminars, and a charity talk music show.
