The increasing dependence of ASEAN member countries on other regions of the world, as well as the desire to reduce development gaps, prompted the ASEAN community to establish the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) blueprint on November 20, 2007, in Singapore, which will begin implementation in 2015. The AEC is projected to transform the ASEAN region into an area where there is free flow of goods, services, investment, and skilled labor, as well as freer flow of capital.
Based on these considerations, Widyatama University held a national seminar with the theme “Creative Indonesia Strategy: Welcoming the ASEAN Economic Community 2015” with the following sub-themes:
Cultural creativity: language and arts and their commercial aspects
Empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
Efficient application and use of advanced technology
Information Technology and E-commerce
Intellectual Property Rights
Development of a creative economy based on design media
This activity is expected to support the world of education in preparing both teaching staff and students to face the demands of the 2015 AEC in the future.
