UTama TV, the campus television station of Widyatama University, has emerged as a media outlet that reports on various academic and non-academic issues, both those directly related to the campus and those related to the community or stakeholders around the campus in Bandung. Its presence serves as a platform for the Widyatama University Campus Community Association in Bandung.
According to Budiman, Head of the UTama TV Association, the programs offered and presented by UTama TV cover various issues, ideas, news, and discourses that highlight global relations, particularly in the city of Bandung, in relation to economic and social development and growth in West Java. Environmental, cultural, and creative industry aspects are also topics that will be discussed in UTama TV’s programs, particularly the local, national, and international environmental conditions.
Meanwhile, Deden Maulana, UTama TV Supervisory Board, explained that UTama TV will become a prospective independent broadcasting media in Bandung, considering that existing commercial television stations prioritize entertainment over education. Therefore, UTama TV will prioritize discussions on education, trade, the environment, and cross-cultural issues while still including elements of entertainment to attract viewers. In connection with Bandung as the initiator of the Asian-African Conference, this presents an opportunity to highlight various cultural information from these countries. The principle permit for UTama TV has been issued by the West Java Regional Broadcasting Commission and is now awaiting a broadcasting permit at the end of this year from the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia.
UTama TV also invites various parties who wish to affiliate or collaborate in building this Community TV, by developing TV programs that are more “healthy” for its audience, so that they have a new, more positive outlook and horizon in their daily lives.
