On Saturday (January 2nd), the Information Systems Study Program-S1, Faculty of Engineering, Widyatama University held a public lecture with the theme “The Role of Information Systems Strategy in Industry and the World of Work” in Room B108. The event featured two senior experts in corporate information system design as speakers: Mr. Satria Fextha, B.Eng., M.Eng., PhD., and Ms. Linda Indrayanti, S.Kom., M.Eng., Dr. Eng.
Mr. Hari Supriyadi, S.T., M.Kom, as the Secretary of the Information Systems Study Program, opened the public lecture, which was attended by first- and second-year students. Mr. Satria was the first speaker, who has a long list of scholarships to his name.
In his presentation, Satria shared his experiences studying in Japan. He gave tips on how to obtain scholarships, especially in the field of Information Systems, which he specializes in. “Knowledge must be cultivated from now on, because it is not difficult to get a scholarship in Japan,” added the man who graduated with a master’s degree from Kumamoto University in Japan. “Be open-minded about scholarships,” he explained. He emphasized that scholarships are not only available from the government or the well-known Bidik Misi program, but also from many Japanese companies such as Panasonic (http://www.panasonic.com/global/home.html), Sony, and even Yamaha (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/), which is a well-known automotive manufacturer, offer scholarship programs for engineering informatics systems. For those eligible for scholarships, they are given the option to complete their studies and then work at the company that provided the scholarship or not. This great opportunity is not wasted by companies as an effort to fulfill their need for quality human resources.
In contrast, Linda, the second speaker, explained the understanding of talent and ability, as well as tips for designing research plans to achieve global market demands, enabling them to become innovative breakthroughs in the companies where they will work in the future. The role of a good academic advisor plays a strategic initial step for students to compete in the industrial field.
The expected outcome of this public lecture is that students will gain a broader perspective, realizing that relying only on a bachelor’s degree is not enough. It will broaden their horizons regarding the many companies and universities abroad that offer full scholarship programs and the fact that Indonesia is the largest “importer” of students studying abroad, followed by Korea and China.
