The era of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), also known as the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA), has just begun. The agreement was signed at the Summit represented by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Joko Widodo, in November last year.
Higher education institutions, both public and private, must be prepared to align their curricula so that graduates can compete globally. Not only in the economic field, but the free trade of the Asian sector also encourages human resources to work and compete in neighboring countries. Unfortunately, Indonesia is not yet ready in terms of human resources, which could result in the unemployment rate doubling or more. The implementation of the AEC in Indonesia could be a “smash” that we must repel so that the Indonesian people do not just become spectators, but can also take part in the competition.
Universitas Widyatama as one of the higher education institutions, is fully committed to ensuring that its graduates can compete in the Asian region and even internationally. This can be seen from the application of the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) in the educational curriculum at Widyatama University. KKNI is a system developed in the education sector through main courses to develop quality and certified national human resources through formal education schemes.
In addition, Universitas Widyatama also equips its students with various seminars, which are one of the factors that support them in becoming higher quality individuals. This seminar was initiated by the Faculty of Business and Management in collaboration with the Business Community Development (BCD) Study Center with the theme of Business and Management Studies in Encouraging Young Entrepreneurship. The invited guests who attended the event were T. Ontowiryo A, S.E., MBA (Chair of the Widyatama Foundation Management Board), Dr. H. Islahuzzaman, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA (Rector of Widyatama University), Dr. Nugroho J. Setiadi (Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management), Dr. Zulganef (Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management), Heads of Bureaus, and Lecturers.
The event, which was held in early 2016, was organized in an “elegant” manner. The audience consisted of students in the concentration/specialization stage. They were required to write papers with themes related to their concentrations. The paper presentations were held in 5 parallel classes, each guided by two moderators in each room. The moderators were faculty members from the Faculty of Business and Management. Many faculty members expressed pride in the topics chosen by the students.
The students who won the title of Best Paper in each concentration/area of interest were Vina Triyanti (Marketing Management), Intan Savitri Gunawan (Operational Management), Agus Septian Heryanto (Human Resource Management), and Rose Rosdiana Suhendar (Financial Management).
