The Chinese Community Care Association presented an award to Widyatama University (UTama) for its success in implementing the government program to vaccinate approximately 14,000 teachers, educational staff, public servants, and elderly people at the Priangan Social Fund Foundation (YDSP) Building from March to May 2021.
The award was received directly by Deden Sutisna, Vice Rector II of UTama, at the YPSD Building, Jalan Nana Rohana No.37, Kelurahan Warung Muncang, Kecamatan Bandung Kulon, on Wednesday (19/5/2021) evening.
Herman Widjaya, Coordinator of the Chinese Community Care and Chairman of the Priangan Social Fund Foundation, said that the award was given because of UTama’s vital role in sending dozens of students, including the UTama Student Regiment, to help facilitate the first and second waves of mass vaccination.
UTama students, said Herman, were very enthusiastic in helping with the implementation, especially in the fields of IT and administration.
In total, there were around 300 volunteers, including volunteers from UTama students.
In the future, according to Herman, there will be closer cooperation to collaborate in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The total number of vaccines 1 & 2 is 14,000 doses. After its effectiveness and efficiency have been proven, there has been a request from the Bandung City Government to assist with vaccinations for the general public. Hopefully, we will all continue to be blessed with good health,” said Herman.
Meanwhile, Deden Sutisna said that UTama’s involvement in this activity was part of its responsibility as a university in Bandung and West Java to participate in humanitarian activities initiated by the Chinese Community Care Organization.
“On behalf of Prof. Obi, Rector of Widyatama University, I would like to express my gratitude for the award from the Chinese Community Care Foundation, which consists of the Bandung Harmonis Foundation, the Bandung Mutiara Kemakmuran Sejahtera Foundation, the Bandung Priangan Social Fund Foundation, the Bandung Minnan Foundation, and the Bandung Harapan Kasih Foundation,” said Deden.

“This activity also needs to be appreciated and even emulated by all parties. Because all elements of society feel involved in the success of government programs, including the Chinese community. So that the vaccination process can be accelerated. The handling of COVID-19 in Indonesia can be carried out well and COVID-19 can be handled more quickly,” added Deden.
UTama also welcomed similar activities to be carried out in the future.
“As a university in Bandung, we strive to participate in community activities as a form of community service. We are also open to other programs, such as helping victims of natural disasters, distributing basic necessities, and so on, especially under the coordination of the Priangan Social Fund Foundation,” said Deden.
On the same occasion, Gary, Chair of the UTama Student Senate, said that he and UTama volunteers had been tasked with inputting patient data prior to vaccination.
They worked for approximately 12 days, from March to May 2021.
“In March and April, we worked full time for five days. This included Ramadan and now (in May) we are working for two days (May 18-19),” said Gary.
“Alhamdulillah, besides helping, we also want to gain experience. Overall, from March to May, there were around 40-50 of our colleagues from various departments and faculties who volunteered for this mass vaccination,” he added.
