Lecturers from the English Language Study Program, Faculty of Languages, Widyatama University (UTama), recently provided training on utilizing Google Forms, Quizizz, and Propofs applications for teachers at SMAN 1 Rancaekek, Bandung Regency, and SMA Nasional, Bandung City, for teaching at both schools.
The activity itself was themed “The Use of Applications in Creating More Effective Questions for Students as well as Training and Testing for the TOEFL Test.” It was held online via Zoom meeting on Thursday (12/8/2021).
Dr. Ervina CM Simatupang, M.Hum., Head of the English Study Program at UTama, explained that the activity was held due to the pandemic, which has forced many schools in the country to conduct online learning. Therefore, teachers must “upgrade” their teaching skills, especially in utilizing digital technology, to deliver material to students, including when giving online exercises/tests.

The reason why the English Language Study Program at UTama provides training on how to use Google Forms, Quizizz, and Propofs is because these applications can be used by teachers to create more enjoyable questions.
Ervina also said that these applications have features that are easier and more varied, so that learning can be more enjoyable, not monotonous and boring.
“Students are also expected to be more enthusiastic in following the lessons,” said Ervina, Saturday (14/8/2021), who is also the author of the book Digital Applications.
On the same occasion, Dr. Hendar, M.Pd., Dean of the Faculty of Languages, who opened the event, said that in addition to providing training for teachers at SMAN 1 Rancaekek and SMA Nasional, the English Study Program lecturers also provided training on TOEFL tips and tricks. The training also provided “added value” for students at SMAN 1 Rancaekek and SMA Nasional Bandung.
The TOEFL training can also be used as preparation for participants to succeed in taking the TOEFL test and obtain a certificate. In the future, it can be used to meet various requirements, especially in mastering and understanding English vocabulary.
The lecturers who delivered the TOEFL material were Dr. Hero Gunawan, M.Pd., Hj. Ida Zuraida, S.S., M.Pd., who presented material on tips for listening. Meanwhile, Puspita Sari explained tips on how to understand structure. Next, Meita Sujatna, S.S., M.Hum., delivered material on tips and tricks for reading.
It is known that the PKM activity was attended by hundreds of participants, who were very enthusiastic about it. The event lasted for three hours from 13:00 to 16:00. The event was hosted by the Secretary of the English Study Program, Heri Heryono, S.S., M.Hum., and the questionnaire was administered by Alvii Timothy Siregar, S.S., M.A.
“Thank you for this activity, which was very beneficial for our teachers and students,” said Yuli Rosdiati, S.Pd., a teacher at SMAN 1 Rancaekek.
