Bandung, (11/1/15) Widyatama University should be proud to have students who can bring pride to Indonesia in the Asia Pacific and international arenas. Muhammad Hamgari is a 2014 student majoring in Management in the Faculty of Business and Management.
Born in Makassar on July 11, 1996, he began his career and hobby at the age of 7. “At that time, I started with swimming lessons. I never thought I would become a great athlete like this,” said Hamgari when talking about the beginning of his career. His promising career began when he first participated in the Makassar City Swimming Championship and won a bronze medal. That was when Ari’s career began, and he became a young athlete in his city.
As time went on, Ari was contracted by the East Java Provincial Government and is now officially an athlete representing East Java. “It’s not about asking what Indonesia can give me, but about giving back to Indonesia,” Ari said when we asked him about the appreciation he receives from the country as a young athlete. The loyalty of this young swimming athlete is evident; he does not think about what he gets from the country, but rather about bringing honor to the country’s name internationally, especially in the field he loves. The role of a country is to show more respect to athletes and former athletes in Indonesia who have brought honor to this beloved Republic.
To date, Ari has won numerous national and international medals in swimming. Recently, he represented Indonesia at the 17th ASEAN UNIVERSITY GAMES from December 17–21, 2014, in Palembang, achieving a 2nd place finish in the 200-meter butterfly event for men.
