On Saturday (7/30), the Student Affairs Office of Universitas Widyatama (UTama), in collaboration with the Student Parents Association (IOM), held a meeting with the parents of active UTama students from the class of 2015. The event, held at the Widyatama Multipurpose Auditorium, was attended by the Rector and his staff, including the academic management team comprising the Dean, Vice Dean, and Head of Study Programs, as well as the Program Secretary. In addition, the Heads of Bureaus and Centers within the university community were also present.
The speech by the Rector of Widyatama, Dr. H. Islahuzzaman, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA, symbolized the start of a series of activities that are held regularly every year. After his speech, the Rector invited his staff, Deans and Vice Deans, and the Head of IOM to take the podium to open a panel discussion between them and the parents of students, who at that time numbered around 80.
“It is very useful when UTama is happy to facilitate us as parents to create a discussion forum with Widyatama officials. This allows us to find a win-win solution amid our confusion as parents in handling our children in college,” said Maman, a parent of a student from the faculty of business and management. Maman added that it is not only high school students who need this kind of parenting, even though they are no longer “little children,” but extra attention must be given by parents in their education.
The participation of the IOM Chair and his management team encouraged the parents of students, especially those from the class of 2015, to be more proactive in voicing their opinions, complaints, and appreciation regarding the learning activities while their children were studying at UTama. This activity also had very good outcomes for many parties, most importantly for parents. Through this meeting, parents can be more active in motivating and guiding their ambitious children to get closer to their goals.
