Improving Student Competence, UTama’s Film and Television Study Program Collaborates with ANTV

Despite the ongoing pandemic, it has not hindered the Film and Television Study Program, Faculty of Visual Communication Design, Widyatama University (UTama) from making various breakthroughs in conducting lectures.

Especially to provide knowledge and improve the competence of its students.

As was done on Wednesday (7/4/2021), UTama Film and Television students participated in a Virtual Cool Class, in collaboration with one of the leading television stations, ANTV, through the Zoom Meeting application.

Two months ago, the UTama Film and Television Study Program also held a similar activity with ANTV, with the theme “Television Media Industry”.

In addition to Widayatama University, students from Mercubuana University Jakarta also participated in the ANTV Cool Class activity.

Two speakers shared their experiences in the world of Visual Communication Design. They were R. Bondan Cheraldi, Graphic Designer at ANTV, and Mahaputra Vito, Visual Artist, who took turns sharing their experiences.

During his presentation, R Bondan Cheraldi, who has been working at ANTV for four years, said that there are four important things he considers when creating a design, namely multidisciplinary design, the design process, design deadlines, and the consequences (of design) that come with creating a design.

In addition, Bondan said that in order to produce a creative design, one must first know the reference.

Another important thing he does is to frequently visit malls, buy books, watch movies, and observe his surroundings. The goal is to increase his references and hone his design sense (training his five senses to be more sensitive to his surroundings).

According to him, malls feature a wide variety of media designs, which change every month. There, Bondan can see the development of design, gain insight into layouts, font selection, colors, and so on.

Bondan added that to improve the skills of a graphic designer, one can also hone them through experience and perspective.

Meanwhile, Mahaputra Vito, an artist who works in the field of holding design and cycling, who has been working for eight years, said that in order to survive in the design industry, one must balance personal satisfaction, work, and hobbies in making friends.

Regarding the ANTV Virtual Cool Class activity, Deden, Dean of the Faculty of Visual Communication Design at UTama, said that it was very good for fostering partnerships with ANTV.

“First, we will continue to promote these programs to the wider community, especially students everywhere. This is in order to foster a partnership between ANTV and the Faculty of Visual Communication Design, specifically the Film and Television study program,” said Deden on Thursday (7/4/2021)

ANTV continues to respond positively by holding online workshops and talk shows, contributing to UTama students.

“From here, the independent learning program for independent campuses will continue to be rolled out. ANTV plays a symbiotic role with universities. Of course, in the future, we can foster good cooperation between UTama and ANTV,” said the dean, who always wears a cap.

Deden added that the Faculty of Visual Communication Design will also invite other faculties at UTama to collaborate (with ANTV) more extensively with Widyatama University.

Meanwhile, Budiman, Head of the Film and Television Study Program at UTama, said that the activity is planned to be continuous with the internship or practical work program for students.

For Film and Television Program students, participation in the ANTV Cool Class is mandatory to enhance additional competencies.

“This activity focuses on additional competencies, as the material covers DKV moving graphics.  for students from the Graphic Design Study Program, the material presented by the speakers can become a core competency,” said Budi
“Alhamdulillah, the activity was very beneficial, and many students from outside the DKV Faculty participated. The point is that all these additional and core competency activities will continue to be developed, especially in the even semester and generally in the new academic year,” he added.

When conditions return to normal, it is planned that students will make a field trip to the ANTV Studio in Jakarta.

“Hopefully next month I can visit there (ANTV) to gain technical and field experience, among other things,” concluded Budi.
