Implementation of the University Introduction Program (PPU) at Widyatama University

University Orientation Program (PPU)

On Tuesday (August 26, 2014), new students of Widyatama University for the 2014/2015 academic year participated in the University Orientation Program (PPU) held at the Widyatama University Multipurpose Auditorium. “Good morning, cama, good morning, cami,” greeted the mentors as they welcomed the new members of the academic community, who were still wearing their white and gray uniforms.

For them, the new students were considered Cama (Prospective Male Students) or Cami (Prospective Female Students) who would be leaving high school behind to enter university.

“One thing we must emphasize is that when the transition from adolescence to adulthood occurs at the university, we begin to think more deeply about what we want to become in the future,” said Dea, a new student in the Faculty of Economics, Accounting Program (D3).

Basically, orientation activities have the noble goal of preparing new students to enter a new educational environment with a series of events packed into a few days. The paradigm of violent orientation and hazing must begin to change to something more positive.

In fact, orientation should be stopped as long as colleges are unable to change the campus introduction process in a good and polite manner. This is a new approach by Widyatama University in organizing orientation that is free from ethnic, religious, and racial discrimination, violence, and hazing by seniors. Activities that are more academic and focus on soft skills are emphasized so that they are more beneficial for new students who will soon begin their studies. This event lasted for 4 days, and this year’s PPU activities included an open Senate session, motivation, organization, campus insight, and a lecture on nationality from Mr. Ridwan Kamil, the Mayor, who was represented by the Head of the Bandung City Education Office, about Bandung’s programs towards becoming a champion city as the Mayor of Bandung, etc.

We extend a warm welcome to the new students and express our gratitude for choosing Widyatama University as their place of learning. We hope that the trust placed in us by the students’ parents, the community, and the job market will lead to the achievement of our shared goal: producing high-quality individuals with strong ethics and moral values.
