The Faculty of Visual Communication Design (FDKV) at Universitas Widyatama (UTama) has once again demonstrated its commitment to expanding its global network through internationalization activities with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Perak, Malaysia. This activity took place from May 5 to 8, 2025, and included various strategic agendas that strengthened cooperation between institutions and had a real social impact.
Three main programs were implemented during this event: Visiting Lecturer, Benchmarking, and Community Service. In the Visiting Lecturer session, lecturers from FDKV UTama gave lectures and shared academic insights at the UiTM Cawangan Perak campus. Meanwhile, the Benchmarking activity was carried out by the FDKV UTama team to study the best practices implemented at UiTM in order to improve the quality of education at UTama.

Another equally important agenda is Community Service, which involves both institutions in serving the Semai Indigenous community in Tapah, Malaysia. Focusing on photography training using mobile phones, this activity aims to empower the local community in documenting their lives and culture. The resulting documentation products are also intended to be published and marketed through the Semai Tapah Indigenous Women’s Cooperative Berhad.
Head of the Multimedia Department at FDKV UTama, Marisa Astuti, S.St., M.M., expressed her enthusiasm for this collaboration.
“We are very pleased to be working with UiTM Cawangan Perak Malaysia in this internationalization activity. We are confident that this activity will bring great benefits to both institutions and the society,” she said.

In line with this, TS. Ahmad Sofiyuddin Mohd Shuib, Graphic Design & Digital Media Faculty Coordinator at UiTM Cawangan Perak, also expressed his hopes.
“We are proud to be able to collaborate with FDKV UTama in this internationalization activity. We are confident that this activity will improve the quality of education and research at both institutions, as well as make a positive contribution to the Orang Asli Semai Tapah community,” he explained.
This initiative not only strengthens the academic ties between FDKV UTama and UiTM Cawangan Perak, but also represents a concrete step toward achieving education that makes a meaningful impact on society. With a spirit of cross-border collaboration, FDKV UTama continues to play an active role in advancing inclusive and global design education.
