Capital Market Professional-Development Program (CMP-DP) Increases Number of Professionals in Capital Markets

Bandung (16/1) Since 2012, Indonesia has entered a period of demographic bonus. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) estimates that the peak of the demographic bonus will be reached in the period 2028 to 2030, with the dependency ratio reaching its lowest point at 46.9 points.

Based on the 2013 Financial Literacy National Survey conducted by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), only about one-fifth of Indonesia’s population, or 21.84%, is classified as well-literate or financially literate. The level of literacy among Indonesians regarding the capital market and the level of utility of capital market products themselves is still far behind when compared to the five other financial service industries in Indonesia.

Therefore, in addition to continuing and intensifying socialization and education through a series of programs for the public, the Indonesian capital market is also required to have competent, reliable professionals who are able to respond to future challenges. The Development Program of Capital Market Professionals’ efforts to achieve these criteria were carried out through a written test held at Widyatama University on Saturday, January 16, 2016.

Opened by Mr. Tito Sulistio as President Director of PT. Bursa Efek Indonesia and broadcast live by IDX Channel, the opening was marked by a Bell Ceremony signifying the start of the written test.

The launch of CMP-DP is expected to increase interest and develop professional careers in Indonesia’s capital market industry. CMP-DP has been promoted through various media publications and in collaboration with a number of universities in Indonesia, one of which is Widyatama University in Bandung.

This program, which is being implemented for the first time, has attracted 4,200 applicants from all over Indonesia. The initial selection was conducted by holding a written test simultaneously on January 16, 2016, in 20 cities in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Balikpapan, Aceh, Bandung, Banjarmasin, Batam, Denpasar, Jambi, Jayapura, Lampung, Makassar, Manado, Medan, Padang, Palembang, Pontianak, Surabaya, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Riau.

Among several cities in Indonesia, particularly in Bandung, UTama was entrusted by CMP-DP to host the test. Given its dedication to economic education, UTama is a university with a strong presence and excellent achievements, particularly in producing the best individuals in financial management.

Candidates who pass the written test will undergo a series of other tests until around 30 of the best candidates are selected to participate in a 12-month development program and 6 months of on-the-job training. Later, each CMP-DP graduate will be placed to work in three self-regulatory organizations (SROs) and their affiliates.

With the increasing availability of professional talent in the capital market, it is hoped that the capital market industry will continue to grow and develop in the coming years. Thus, the dream of the Indonesian capital market to become the largest in Southeast Asia and Asia can be realized in the future.
