Widyatama University (UTama), one of the best private universities in Bandung, continues to provide benefits to the wider community, including through Community Service (Abdimas) activities.
The most recent initiative was carried out by the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, UTama, which provided flood sensor equipment to residents of the Kinagara Regency Complex RT 03 RW 17, Lengkong Village, Bojongsoang District, Bandung Regency.
The Head of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Udin Komarudin, Ir., MT., handed over the flood sensor devices directly to the Head of RW 17, Avan Fajry, at the Kinaraga Regency Complex on Sunday (10/30/2022).
Udin explained that the purpose of this activity was to assist the community by providing early information about potential flooding in the complex area.
“It is hoped that the community will be better prepared to face the arrival of floods, thereby minimizing losses,” said Udin after providing the assistance.
In addition to delivering aid, he also conducted outreach on this flood sensor device. This included explaining how the device works, the materials used, how to make it, and how to install it.
Udin added that this flood sensor device is the result of research involving lecturers and students from the Mechanical Engineering Department at UTama.
“This flood sensor device is quite simple, inexpensive, and can be made by the community themselves. It consists of three important parts, namely a water sensor, a power source (12 Volt DC battery), and a signal (siren and light),” explained Udin.
For installation, this device can be placed on the riverbank. Once the water level rises and touches the flood sensor at a certain height, the siren will sound.
“The working principle of this device is also quite simple, namely when this sensor is exposed to water (flood), there will be an electric current from the battery to sound the siren and turn on the light,” he added.
The handover of the flood sensor devices was attended by residents of the complex, officials from RT 03/RW 17 Lengkong Village, lecturers and mechanical engineering students from Widyatama University.
