PT. Telkom and the Information Technology Study Program (Prodi) at Widyatama University collaborated to conduct the Internet Goes To School (IGTS) training program, which was attended by 5,000 participants from the following groups: teachers and students from elementary, junior high, and senior high schools/vocational schools; government agencies (RT/RW administrators, sub-districts, villages); SMEs; and community organizations.
This training program was held for approximately 3 months from November 20, 2007 to January 30, 2008, involving 22 instructors and 42 assistants from Widyatama University, specifically from the Information Technology Study Program and the Information Systems Study Program. The materials provided in this training included searching for needed information using search engines, managing e-mail, and chatting. With this activity, it is hoped that students and the community, especially in Bandung, will not miss out on information by utilizing internet technology, and will also be able to exchange information.
The objectives of this community service activity were to provide internet knowledge to students and the community in Bandung and its surrounding areas, contribute to the community, particularly in the field of IT, through internet training activities, implement one of the work programs in the Information Technology Study Program, namely community service, introduce the Information Technology Study Program at Widyatama University to the wider community, and establish cooperation with PT. Telkom Bandung.
