The General Basic Education Department (BPDU) of Widyatama University held a public lecture on “Economic Issues from a Sociological and Political Perspective,” inviting Prof. Dr. I Gede Pantja Astawa, M.H., an expert in sociology and politics as well as a practitioner, as the speaker on March 8, 2008. This event was attended by students from Widyatama University.
It was argued that the discourse on the role of law in economic development and recovery must be placed within the framework of the supremacy of law. However, reality shows that the law is still merely an instrument of power. This situation makes it difficult for law enforcement officials to play their most important role in economic recovery efforts. This would not be possible without a sincere commitment to placing the law above power, which must be accompanied by the political will of state administrators, especially the government, to consistently enforce the law in practice. Finally, Gede added that the key to ensuring the supremacy of law in the framework of economic recovery lies primarily in the political will of the government.
