A series of activities during the 2008 Social Service Week were carried out in collaboration with the Widyatama University Student Government for the 2007-2008 term, the Hikmatul Iman Student Activity Unit, and the Islamic Student Family (KAMI) Student Activity Unit, from April 23 to 29, 2008, at the Widyatama University Campus, Jalan Cikutra, Bandung. There were three series of activities combined into a week, culminating on April 28-29, 2008. The activities carried out included mass medical treatment, mass circumcision, and blood donation.
On Wednesday (4/23/2008) at 8:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, the event was opened at GSG Widyatama by the Chair of the Widyatama Foundation Management Board, Dra. Koesbandijah Abdoel Kadir, MS. Ak. At 10:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, it was followed by three days of mass medical treatment. The community was very enthusiastic about taking advantage of the free alternative energy-based medical treatment. This was evident from the 214 patients who registered, consisting of students, employees, lecturers, and local residents. Similarly, during the mass circumcision (April 27, 2008), approximately 31 children participated, including children of employees and representatives from each neighborhood association in Sukapada Village. This circumcision was a collaboration with the Sumbawa Circumcision Center, with the assistance of six medical personnel and three nurses. During the mass circumcision, compensation in the form of circumcision money and basic food supplies was also distributed to the children who were circumcised.
On April 28-29, 2008, the blood donation activity, which was the highlight of the event, was attended by 136 donors from students and employees. “We hope that this activity will not be a one-time event, but we want activities like this to be sustainable, so that our less fortunate brothers and sisters can be helped and made happy by the holding of activities like this,” said Reinaldi, the general coordinator of the 2008 Social Service. Entitled “Sharing Love and Building Relationships with Others,” this activity not only provided medical services but also served as a gathering place for students and residents around the Widyatama campus, encouraging the community to care for and share love with others, as well as to be aware of and promote health in their respective environments. Thus, the vision of “Healthy People, Strong Nation” can be realized.
