The Padjadjaran University (Unpad) Bandung men’s badminton team won 5-0 over the Bandung Indonesia Post Polytechnic (Poltekpos) in the continuation of the Blibli.com West Java Conference LIMA Badminton preliminary round at the Lodaya Sports Hall in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday (March 11, 2015).
Facing Poltekpos, a newcomer to LIMA Badminton, Unpad had little difficulty sweeping all the matches played.
Windi Mustianas opened Unpad’s victory in the first match, winning 21-18 and 21-8 against Reno Prabowo. Next, the doubles pair Syammas/Topan continued the winning streak, bringing their team ahead 2-0 after defeating Asep/Anjar in two straight games, 21-9 and 21-12.
Unpad nearly lost a point when Poltekpos’ second singles player, Amos Juldopa, forced a rubber game against Aditya Bagus. Fortunately, Aditya, who was playing at home and fully supported by fans who were mostly his college peers, ended the opponent’s resistance with a score of 13-21, 21-18, and 8-11 against Amos Juldopa.
“It’s really unfortunate that the second singles had to go to a rubber game because in the pool point system, the score is also counted. However, overall, we are satisfied with the results today,” said Nesya Noviyana, Unpad’s Official Manager.
The second men’s doubles pair, Danny/Ivan, completed Unpad’s victory with a 5-0 score after defeating Taufik/Reno with scores of 21-10 and 21-10. This marked Poltekpos’ second defeat after they were also defeated by Widyatama University with a score of 5-0 earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, in another match, the Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) team failed to achieve a clean sweep. Playing in the last match, Unpar won 4-1 against Unisba. The one point they lost came from their first singles player, Sandy, who was forced to concede defeat in two straight sets to Randi Shohibul with scores of 17-21 and 12-21.
