On Wednesday (12/30), at the Widyatama Foundation meeting room, the Widyatama Foundation’s Supervisory Board and Management Board, along with their staff, held a Muhasabah. The session was opened at exactly 8:00 a.m. by Mr. T. Ontowiryo Abdoelkadir, Chairman of the Widyatama Foundation Management Board, who conveyed that the purpose and benefits of self-reflection in Islam need to be known and well understood by Muslims themselves. This is because when carried out properly, the true meaning of muhasabah will bring many benefits to humans themselves, both in this world and in the hereafter.
Mrs. Judiestiaty Ontowiryo, the speaker, explained that Muhasabah comes from the word hasiba yahsabu hisab, which etymologically means to calculate. There are several benefits and advantages of muhasabah for every believer, namely:
- By practicing muhasabah, every Muslim will be able to recognize their own faults and shortcomings, whether in terms of worship or activities that benefit many people. Thus, they will be able to improve themselves in areas where they feel they are lacking.
- In terms of worship, we will become more aware of our rights and obligations as His servants and continue to improve ourselves and understand the essence of worship, which is that the wisdom of worship is for our own benefit. It is not for the benefit of Allah Ta’ala. Because we are weak and sinful human beings who need forgiveness for our many sins.
- Knowing everything, big or small, that we do in this world, we will be held accountable for it in the hereafter. This is one of the wisdoms of muhasabah in every human being.
- Hate your desires and be wary of them. And always perform acts of worship and obedience and stay away from anything that smacks of sin, so that your reckoning on the Day of Judgment will be light.
The self-reflection session was concluded by Mrs. Sri Lestari Adriani, Chairperson of the Widyatama Foundation Board of Trustees, urging everyone to submit themselves to obey all the commands of Allah SWT and avoid His prohibitions, for it is through this that the reckoning will be light on the Day of Judgment.
Let us hurry to crry out the essence of muhasabah, which is to do all the commands of Allah SWT and avoid all His prohibitions, so that in the hereafter we will be among those whose reckoning is light. And Allah knows best.
