The presence of the Faculty of Visual Communication Design (FKDV) as a “young” faculty compared to other faculties that have been established for a long time does not mean that this faculty has no achievements. In fact, the faculty with its two study programs (Graphic Design D4 and Multimedia D3) has produced graduates who have been quickly absorbed by local and international companies. Supported by complete and modern facilities, as well as innovative teaching methods, FDKV Widyatama graduates are able to meet the challenges of the world. The demand for experts in this particular field is still relatively small, but despite the small number of graduates, it does not mean that Widyatama design students do not have a great “impact”.
Nandani Eka Mustopa, a student of the FDKV Graphic Design D4 program, achieved a remarkable feat by winning the 2015 Christmas and 2016 New Year greeting card design competition held by the Kompas daily newspaper, specifically in the Kompas Klasika section (http://klasika.kompas.com/). Her work was published in the Kompas daily newspaper on page 7. The work was published right when the Widyatama Foundation was celebrating its 43rd anniversary (January 3). The work was also one of the best gifts for the Widyatama Foundation.
This girl, who often wears boots, is a young entrepreneur. In addition to attending college, Nanda, as she is affectionately known, has a business creating sketches of faces, characters, and wall paintings or murals. “The price I usually offer is around Rp. 300,000 to Rp. 500,000, depending on the complexity. It’s decent for saving,” she added while showing her work, which was also commissioned by Widyatama’s internal magazine, KOMUNITA. Additionally, her sketches are featured on her personal Instagram account (@nandaniekam).
Now, Nanda, who is also a graduate of SMAN 1 Majalengka, has two businesses, printing and portrait sketching. She also joined and is active in KOMUNITA magazine as Artistic Editor, Layout and Illustration with her team, which consists of FDKV Widyatama lecturers, Mr. Rudy Farid and Mrs. Annisa Bela Pertiwi.
In 2013, Nanda received a PKM-K (Student Creativity Program-Entrepreneurship) grant with the title “create your own wall” (www.gambardinding.com) and was funded by DIPA Kopertis Region IV, the Ministry of Education and Culture, and received a scholarship from the Widyatama Foundation as an outstanding student. Additionally, her academic achievements were outstanding, earning her the trust to become an assistant lecturer to Dr. Anne Nurfarina, S.Sn., M.Sn. (Dean of the Faculty of Visual Communication Design).
The final project she is currently working on is titled “Redesign of Packaging and Interactive Video Learning Publication Media for the Early Childhood Education (PAUD) Series PP-PAUDNI Regional 1 Bandung” and has received educational assistance or a scholarship from the West Java Provincial Government. This inspiring student serves as a role model for others to continue creating, as seen in Nanda’s vision to achieve her future aspirations. May Nanda’s story motivate other students. Keep creating for a Great Indonesia.
