Be Part of Bandung’s Transformation by Attending the WISE 2016 Seminar

On Saturday (20/2), the Widyatama Information Systems Student Association (HIMASI) held the Widyatama Information System Event 2016 (WISE 2016). In addition to seminars, this annual event also held competitions in poster design, web design, and smart city simulation games for high school students and their equivalents. The seminar, attended by two speakers, Prof. Dr. Ir. Suhono H. Supangkat, M. Eng and Prof. Dr. Ir. Richardus Eko Indrajit, M.Sc., M.B.A, carried the theme of Smart City.

Smart cities are no longer unfamiliar to the general public. The numerous plans by local governments to transform their cities into future-oriented cities are no longer just a discourse. This can be seen from the leadership of the Mayor of Bandung, Mr. Ridwan Kamil, who has planned to transform Bandung into a creative city and smart city. With the city government’s reference in developing the area into a smart city, the citizens of the city must also be properly socialized so that there is synergy in the hierarchy in accordance with its structure.

The event opened with a speech from the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Widyatama University (UTama), Dr. Oktri Muhammad Firdaus, S.T., M.T., followed by a speech and the opening of the event by the Vice Rector for Learning and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Davidescu Cristiana Victoria. The creative seminar, chaired by Firman, an active student from the 2014 Information Systems Study Program, was a good forum for the Bandung City government to socialize its programs to students. As the young driving force behind Smart City, students can become a “getok tular” factor that can influence smart city regulations on their parents. In other words, students are the best platform for indoctrination, especially for their parents, in the application of smart city to become a developed city in Indonesia. In his presentation, Prof. Eko explained that a smart city is not a goal, but a means to develop a city that is comfortable for its residents to live in because it is safe, friendly, and prosperous (at least all the basic needs of the people in the city can be met) – and intelligently provides a variety of services needed by the community on a daily basis (in accordance with the developments and dynamics of the times).

In addition to the seminar, there were also winners of the Poster Design and Website Design competitions that had been held. SMKN 1 Cimahi won and “snatched” 1st and 2nd place in the poster design competition. Meanwhile, the website competition was won by the robot community (IT Club). The first winner was appreciated by the Bandung City Government with a symbolic trophy and cash prize from WISE 2016. The success and maturity of the event was evident from the enthusiasm shown by those attending the seminar. With a hot theme and future-oriented topics, it was one of the successes of the WISE 2016 event.
