Bandung (24/8), Universitas Widyatama (UTama) once again held a grand event. This time, the university community welcomed new students who had been accepted at UTama. Around 1,300 participants attended the series of events held throughout the week.
This is not the first year that Universitas Widyatama has implemented a paradigm shift from orientation to an introduction program. Based on the circular letter from the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education No: 253/B/SE/VIII/2016 concerning Campus Orientation for New Students, point 5 of the circular letter explains that the implementation of the Campus Life Program for New Students (PKKMB) is focused on efforts to promote maturity and learning in an orderly manner, and free from verbal, physical, or mental violence.
This clearly illustrates that the “hazing” program, which has become a tradition and “ancestral” culture, is being phased out so that parents of students are not burdened with the unclear stigma surrounding the Campus Orientation Program. In order to maintain stable educational values and morals for its students, the Universitas Widyatama Introduction Program (PPU) includes an anti-drug counseling event in collaboration with the Sahabat Sebaya Foundation with the theme Global Action for Healthy Without Drugs. The activities carried out on the third day of the PPU were very much in line with the mandate given by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education in its circular letter. The PKKMB was filled with material about introducing campus life, both academic and non-academic, accompanied by material on national insight, national defense awareness, prevention, countermeasures and drug abuse, as well as reducing radicalism with the right methods.
New students were approved and inaugurated with the Widyatama University Senate Session held on the first day of the PPU. It was a monumental moment when the UTama Senate inaugurated the new UTama students. This shows Widyatama’s seriousness in welcoming new students. With the inauguration of these new students, it is hoped that they will become more aware and change their mindset to be more open-minded and independent so that they understand the competition between individuals in order to develop a strong and innovative spirit.
The PPU is designed to encourage students to be more creative, innovative, and broad-minded by introducing Student Activity Units (UKM) within the Widyatama community. New students can contribute innovative creations in tangible form by joining UKM and other student organizations.
Not forgetting its credibility as an entrepreneurial campus, which has produced many graduates who have created job opportunities for the wider community. There is something different about this year’s PPU, which has a warm, family-like atmosphere, inviting alumni who have been successful entrepreneurs in their fields to share and tell stories about their journey to success.
