This year’s Independence Day celebration marks a historic moment for Indonesia. On its 73rd anniversary, Indonesia has been entrusted to host a major world event, the 2018 Asian Games, which will open today, Saturday, August 18, 2018. At an age that can be considered mature for a country, Indonesia is now establishing itself as the center of world attention not only in sports but also in various other sectors. This is evident in the achievements of the nation’s children who have made their mark on the world stage in recent times, from the 100-meter world champion, the AFF U-16 cup champion, to the champion in the field of technological innovation through their plastic waste car. This was conveyed by the Indonesian Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education in his Independence Day speech read by the Rector of Universitas Widyatama (UTama) Dr. H. Islahuzzaman, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA during the Flag Raising Ceremony commemorating the 73rd Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence at the Widyatama Auditorium (GSG) on Friday, August 17.
The Minister also mentioned that the 23rd National Technology Awakening Day Commemoration some time ago was a form of appreciation and recognition of the brilliant successes and achievements of Indonesia’s sons and daughters in the field of science and technology. However, he reminded that the utilization of science and technology and innovation for the community still needs to be improved. He called on higher education institutions to continue to enhance their synergy with industry players and the community so that science, technology, and innovation can contribute maximally to the nation’s progress and address national issues.
He added that in facing the 4.0 industrial revolution, new literacy in higher education, namely Data Literacy, Technology Literacy, and Human Literacy, must strengthen the old literacy that only relied on reading, writing, and mathematics. On this occasion, the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education encouraged all elements to continue working to develop research, technology, and higher education and to achieve accomplishments that strengthen pride and confidence in Indonesia.
