In an effort to help and solve the community’s difficulties in accessing clean water to meet their daily needs, a team of lecturers and students from the Mechanical Engineering and Information Systems Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Widyatama University (UTama) conducted research and Community Service (PkM) in Bojongmalaka Village, Baleendah District, Bandung Regency.
Until now, residents in the area have been constrained by murky and yellowish water, making it unsuitable for use.
Seeing this condition, the team of lecturers and students from the Mechanical Engineering and Information Systems Study Program at UTama conducted research and provided assistance in the form of 7 sets of water filters, consisting of 14 units, a tool for purifying groundwater.
Sri Lestari, Ir., M.T., Chairperson of the PkM Grant Implementation Team, explained that the faculty members involved in the team were Dani Hamdani, S.Kom., M.T., and Martoni, S.T., M.T.
Meanwhile, funding for these activities was provided by the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Policy Research Program and the 2021 Research and Prototype-Based Community Service Program of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology.
Sri Lestari added that this activity is also a form of MBKM that has been rolled out by Mas Mentri Nadiem Markarim, Indonesia’s Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
“Through the transformation of higher education in the MBKM concept, research and community service are encouraged to be downstreamed to solve problems in the community,” Sri said recently.
“Based on that, the implementation of the PkM grant from UTama aims to conduct research to address the clean water issues faced by the residents of Bojongmalaka, Bandung Regency,” she added.
The result is a water filtration device implemented in the village community, with the hope of helping to resolve the clean water issues in Bojongmalaka village.
The handover of the water filter took place on Monday, December 27, 2021. The equipment was received directly by the Head of Bojongmalaka Village, Dedi Dermawan.
For this assistance, Dedi Dermawan expressed his gratitude to Widyatama University and the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology for their assistance and funding.
Dedi also hopes that similar activities can be continued for other issues in Bojongmalaka Village.
