The government strives to protect Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as outlined in Presidential Decree No. 19 of 1998, as small-scale economic activities that need to be protected and prevented from unfair competition.

In relation to MSMEs, the Information Systems Study Program, Widyatama University (UTama) Bandung, in collaboration with the Bandung City Trade and Industry Office (DISDAGIN), held a Community Service (PkM) activity in the odd semester of the 2021-2022 academic year.

In this activity, lecturers from the Information Systems Study Program at UTama provided training on Digital Marketing, focusing on “branding” for MSMEs.

It was held at the Widyatama University campus, Jalan Cikutra no. 204-A, on Monday, December 20, 2021. It was attended by 20 MSMEs that are members of the Bandung City DISDAGIN community.

The activity involved 10 students and 4 lecturers from the Information Systems Program as facilitators to address the challenges faced by SMEs, particularly in terms of “branding” their products.

Head of the Information Systems Study Program, Sri Lestari, Ir., M.T., explained that MSMEs were given insights into the use of digital marketing, particularly “branding.”

Starting with an introduction to digitization, branding such as logos, names, and social media, to an introduction to digital branding, which is the process of building MSME brands online through websites, applications, and social media.

“Participants were also trained in creating logos, names, and selecting colors that are easy for consumers to remember and have their own meaning,” said Sri.

“For example, they were given examples of logos for products that are easy for consumers to remember, such as Starbucks, KFC, and others. When consumers see the logo, they immediately recognize the product,” said Sri recently.

Sri added that most MSMEs now use digital media, such as Instagram and Facebook, to market their products and have joined several marketplaces.

On this occasion, the Head of Distribution of Essential Goods at DISDAGIN Bandung City, Rohman Agus Jatnika, S.T., M.M., and the Founder of Adelie Studio, Sandi Pratama, were present.

In his speech at the event, Rohman expressed his appreciation to the Information Systems Study Program at Widyatama University for holding a digital marketing training event for MSMEs in the Bandung City DISDAGIN community.

“I would like to express my gratitude. This event is very beneficial, and I hope it can support the empowerment of MSMEs in Bandung City,” said Rohman.

It is known that the event was made possible thanks to funding assistance from LP2M UTama Bandung.
