PEDAS Collaboration between PT KAI and Widyatama University Wins Platinum Rating at the 2022 TKMPN Event in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara

SOREANG JOURNAL– The Research Team of the Civil Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Widyatama University and the Innovation Team of PT KAI (Persero) participated in the National Competition entitled the 26th National Quality and Productivity Meeting (TKMPN) 2022, which was held on November 21th-25th, 2022 at the Lombok Raya Hotel, West Nusa Tenggara.

This year’s TKMPN XXVI in Lombok was attended by more than 1,500 competent national-level participants in the field of quality management and work productivity.

They were representatives from 129 large companies in Indonesia. The event was organized by Wahana Kendali Mutu (WKM) in collaboration with the Indonesian Quality and Productivity Management Association (AMMPI), supported by the Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of Industry, Pemptiv NTB, and other professional organizations.

PT KAI (Persero), with its innovative product, the PEDAS or Level 1 River Estimator, which is the result of collaboration with academics in the Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering Study Programs, Faculty of Engineering, WIdyatama University, won the Platinum award at the event.

Alhamdulillah, after conducting research from planning, design, assembly, and testing of the device, which took nearly six months, the PEDAS Level 1 device was able to break through at the regional level and now won Platinum at the TKMPN XXVI event.

“Terima kasih saya ucapkan kepada PT KAI yang selalu mensupport untuk berkarya dan berinovasi, juga kepada tim dari Universitas Widyatama yang telah bersedia membantu kami mewujudkan ide sederhana menjadi produk yang sangat berguna” kata bapak Dicky Arisikam, S.T., M.T., QRMP, IPM manager Track & Bridge Maintenance Engineering yang juga sebagai konseptor alat PEDAS.

According to Dicky Arisikam, this level 1 PEDAS device is not only easy to carry and use, but can also last up to 6 hours.

In addition, other advantages include the ability to read elevation points in MDPL units, measurement data stored on an SD card, and the ability to read water depths of up to 7 meters. “Of course, this device is very affordable,” he said.

He added that Widyatama University, particularly the Civil Engineering Study Program, is ready to support and implement ideas from practitioners, especially PT KAI (Persero).

“This collaboration is expected to encourage practitioners, academics, and students to innovate for the advancement of science and technology, especially in the fields of civil engineering and railways,” said Raden Herdian Bayu Ash Shiddiq, S.T., M.T., coordinator of the research team.

The next phase of development for the PEDAS Level 2 device will focus more on its features and practicality.

With a larger memory capacity, it is expected to be able to read water depths of more than 7 meters. The addition of Bluetooth functionality will enable it to connect to smartphones, with data stored in a smartphone app and displayed in graph form.
