BANDUNG, June 27th, 2025 – Universitas Widyatama has once again made a proud achievement on the international stage. Through technological innovation in the field of fisheries, a team from Universitas Widyatama won the Gold Medal at the International Teaching and Learning Invention Innovation Competition (iTaLIIC) held by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia.
This prestigious award was given for Universitas Widyatama’s success in developing an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based fish farming detection tool, which is part of the Living Lab program—a real-world implementation of collaboration between academia and the community. The E-Smart Streams: Enhancing Rural Resilience Through AI, Solar Innovation, and Structured Community E-Learning innovation was developed in collaboration with INTI International University, Malaysia and the Sumedang Regency Government, and has been implemented in Cileles Village, Sumedang Regency as the first pilot location.
The Rector of Universitas Widyatama, Prof. Dr. H. Dadang Suganda, M.Hum, expressed his gratitude and pride in this achievement. “This Gold Medal is proof that the research and innovation developed by Widyatama is not only relevant locally but also receives international recognition. We designed this fish farming detection tool based on the real needs of the community, with an applicable AI technology approach,” he said.
This fish farming detection tool is capable of monitoring water, soil, and air quality, as well as the health of individual fish, and is integrated into a digital application that can be accessed by fish farmers. Using solar cell energy, this tool is designed to be used even in remote areas.
The iTaLIIC event itself is an annual international competition that brings together innovators, educators, and researchers from various countries to present new findings and approaches in learning and technology development.
“Participating in and winning iTaLIIC has motivated us to continue innovating and driving technological progress that has an impact on society. We also hope that this success will strengthen Widyatama’s role as an adaptive and globally competitive higher education institution,” said Prof. Dadang.
By winning this Gold Medal, Universitas Widyatama has not only made Indonesia proud in the eyes of the world, but also made a concrete contribution to sustainable development in the fisheries sector and the empowerment of local MSMEs.
This event also serves as a strategic momentum to expand international collaboration, particularly in the development of AI technology for education, research, and community solutions in the digital era.
