Dede Yusuf: Creating Strong Talents Through the 2009 Widyatama Cup

A total of 319 taekwondo athletes from 60 high schools across Indonesia participated in the 2009 Widyatama Cup National Taekwondo Championship for High Schools/Vocational Schools, held on February 26-28, 2009, at the Widyatama University Auditorium in Bandung. The championship, officially opened by West Java Deputy Governor Dede Yusuf, is one of the events aimed at identifying young talent in the martial art of taekwondo. In his opening remarks, Dede Yusuf reminded the audience that this championship not only brings prestige to schools and regions, but also serves as an event to spur the achievements of young taekwondo athletes, with the hope that outstanding and formidable athletes will emerge to bring pride to Indonesia on the world stage. Meanwhile, the Vice Rector for Research and Development at Widyatama University, Prof. Dr. Maman Kusman, explained in his speech that Widyatama pays serious attention to the development of its students’ soft skills. Taekwondo is one of the activities that supports the development of soft skills.
