Nine universities in Bandung, Jakarta, and Lampung participated in the National Intercollegiate Debate Competition held on April 13-15, 2009, in the Seminar Room on the 4th floor of the Widyatama Rectorate Building, Jalan Cikutra, Bandung. On the first day, the national debate competition for the West Java governor’s rotating trophy opened with a match between the Pasundan University Bandung (UNPAS) team and the Post Polytechnic, while the host team, Widyatama University 3 (Utama), faced off against the Lancang Kuning University Pekanbaru team. The National Debate Competition among students, which covered various topics from the fields of management and business, particularly related to strategic management, was part of the Widyatama Management Event (WME) organized by the Student Senate of the Faculty of Business & Management at Widyatama University.
According to the Dean of the Faculty of Business & Management at Widyatama University, Sri Astuti Pratminingsih, when opening the event (13/4), this activity was intended to broaden students’ horizons and hone their verbal communication skills as capital for later entering society. “Communication is one of the main assets for achieving success in the world of work, in addition to academic abilities,” she said.
The week-long event will feature various activities, including a national intercollegiate debate competition, talk shows, a management expo, seminars, and a charity talk music show. The debate competition will be participated in by nine universities, including Pasundan University in Bandung, Bandung Polytechnic, Lancang Kuning University in Pekanbaru, Telkom Management Institute in Bandung, London School in Jakarta, and IBI Lampung.
